Algebra Exhibition Reflection
Through the encyclopedia project I learned where conic sections came from. The long and quite interesting of history of conics. I learned that conic sections were first found when King Minos asked that his tomb be double in size, but not the lengths. This is of course impossible, but Meneachmus a student at Plato's School found the conic sections while trying to solve the problem of doubling the cube. Apollonius, Pappus and Proclus, and Johannes were the next large contributors to conic sections. I also learned a little bit of the general math that goes along with conics sections. For example, conics are always showed with a double napped cone because it better represents the sections.
If I was to do something in this project differently I would probable take more time to research specific contributions from certain mathematicians. I don’t think that I’d want to change the project. I really liked how it was setup and how there weren’t to many people doing the same topic areas. It was left open for us to discover new and interesting information.

During this project I learned a little bit about myself as well. I learned that .edu (educational) sources aren't always the best sources. Sometimes going to a senior college students math history final paper can be better. I also learned that because of how long ago conics were discovered there's a lot of conflicting facts about what actually happened. For example, one of my sources explained that Menaechmus solved the problem of doubling cube, when in fact it is mathematically impossible to do. There's no way that you could double the cube in size but not double the lengths. So checking the credibility and sources where the document got it's facts is extremely important the farther and farther you go back in time.
In terms of my upcoming exhibition, I feel prepared. I have my document with everything that I wrote. If I had to present to someone I would just talk about what was written in my document. I have enough writing and content to probably teach someone something. I could print off a hard copy that I could use instead of having my computer up. I feel ready for the exhibition. The math part of exhibition is the thing that I am least worried about.

Semester One Exam and Project
Our most recent project was to make 10 math problems ranging from easy to hard and one ridiculous problem. I found the project to be fairly easy but it still provided challenge once I came to the end of the project. The first three problems were easy problems which made them very easy to make and complete. As the difficulty of the problems became harder I found it more difficult. Especially once I started making some problems with things that I was't comfortable with doing. Overall I found the project to be just the right amount of work and challenge for me to stay interested and feel pushed.
How am I going to study for the semester exam? Well I'm not sure. I was considering doing something along the lines of what our project was so I could teach myself and refresh on subjects that we covered. I found during the latest project that it writing my own problems helped me to understand the topic more fully. My other study option is to work with my mom who is a math teacher and is currently teaching algebra 2 at the local college.
My first semester of algebra 2 has been very good and I hope to continue on this way next semester. I found one of my weaknesses or maybe this is just a class setup thing, taking notes for twenty minutes each day at the beginning of class and then being expected to be able to understand that topic and do the assignment does not always work. I feel really lost sometimes when it comes to certain things that we are doing partially because I think that I need more than just those notes to effectively do the homework. I seem to be doing alright in the class though so I guess I can handle it. Overall its been a fun semester and I'm looking forward to the next one.
