I have obtained an internship at GRNM Law. GRNM Law works to serve Southwest Colorado in both civil and criminal law. They also provide advice in real estate and business transactions. The firm has an emphasis on operating as a team and attorney's often consult with each other to make sure the client receives the benefit of combined knowledge of the team. I am excited to intern with this skilled and experienced team and hope to learn many valuable things.
My mentor is Jeff Robbins. Jeff is one of the four partners in the firm and he specializes in civil litigation, land use and development, governmental, and oil and gas law. Although Jeff is my mentor I am planning on spending time with all four of the partners. I have the ability to do so, so I see no reason to not take advantage of that resource. I have a general lack of knowledge when it comes to law, so I am hoping to learn a little of what goes on in each of the partners worlds and how they do things.
This internship will help with my career goal because I have an inkling that I may be interested in law. I am definitely interested in the humanities. Although this internship may not be the best for that interest, knowing what you don’t want to do can be just as important as knowing what you would like to do.
At this point in time I do not know what my project will be or what it will look like. I attended an attorney meeting at the GRNM office and asked that they consider some things that I could do as a project while I am there. This is another challenge that I am going to overcome over my internship. I have already had struggles with finding an internship, specifically with prospective mentors not responding to phone calls or emails. I have learned over this time that if you ask someone for something the worst that they can say is no. That is nothing to fear. Continuing to work hard through this internship and remembering that perseverance is one of my greatest tools when problems arise.
I am feeling a little nervous, anxious, and excited. I am worried that I may not enjoy my time there. If I don’t that is okay, that is just how things are. I am also nervous about what role I will play at GRNM Law for three weeks. How will I help them? What can I do and what will I be restricted from? I am excited because I am going to be going into something completely new. I am hoping that it will be as exhilarating as jumping off the high dive for the first time when I was little. I am looking forward to this internship and am anxious to get started.
I am hoping that I will have a fun and successful internship with GRNM Law.
